Challenges

Deep customer insight is crucial to successful strategy development and execution. To uncover growth opportunities and develop new offerings—but also to evaluate acquisition targets or consider outsourcing strategies—understanding what matters to customers and drives their behavior is essential. Customer insight helps companies answer some of today’s most important questions:

  • What are the most attractive segments for us? What are these customers’ desires? Which desires are met and unmet, and can we serve them?
  • How are we perceived by our customers? And by our non-customers?
  • Where can we grow? Can we extend our brand(s) into new categories or segments?
  • What are the purchase and decision patterns of customers? What are the key levers and triggers to capture them?

DC GROUP Competencies

DC GROUP formed its Center for Consumer Insight (CCI) to make customer-insight research a core capability and an integral part of our consulting practice. With the CCI, DC GROUP applies a unique, integrated approach to bring clients the full value of deeper customer understanding.
Our approach has three basic principles: building on existing knowledge (DC GROUP’s and that of our clients), designing superior research tailored to each project’s needs, and fully integrating consumer insight with the other strategic lenses. Our practice and expertise combines all forms of research:

  • Deep-dive innovative qualitative research, including our MindDiscovery technique and “in-context” research
  • Quantitative research, leveraging the complete range of techniques—from classic surveys to complex conjoint or agent-based modeling
  • Data-mining of customer databases

Our customer and consumer insight practice spans all regions, industries, and topics. DC GROUP has worked on more than 1,000 consumer-insight projects around the world in the past decade—including 350 in the past two years. The CCI is supported by both our Marketing and Sales practice and our Consumer practice.
